I did it! The lesson still life in my Saturday drawing school, which I started 5(!) Saturdays ago. It is rather huge, 50x70cm (20"x28") and almost killed me with the quantity of strokes I had to make.
Developing patience and attention to details (I do not have much of any) are another great reason to study drawing.

In the Garden

Yesterday I was on the scheduled visit to my parents place and had half an hour to sketch lilies in the garden. Too much diligence always makes the sketch look overworked.
One more thing. I was completely and unconditionally happy yesterday. It lasted for about 45 minutes.
My recipe of happiness:
Time: when the sun is on the way down
Where: on the empty road, with wood along both sides of the road and clean blue sky above
Driving the car at 100-120km/hour speed
And listening to Nigel Kennedy playing Bach.
In the midsummer.
That's it.

Drawing people is a huge new challenge for drawing learner. And one step at a time makes miracles.
This time I was at the meeting and had great location for sketching, a bit upper and on the side of the crowd.

One year ago I was lying on the grass at exactly the same place and drawing the same group of trees. Here (link) posted my July 2009 experiment.
Are there any changes one year later? I hope so. Interesting how it would look in 2011.
I go to drawing school. I read so much priceless info about drawing and watercolor, I practice every day. I think and I analyse. And then - blaams!!! - I forget everything and draw next red barn, quickly, in 20 minutes, with no idea, just for pure pleasure of red and chaos.

I was sketching today at Partiarshy ponds in Moscow. Pleasure.
And a macro from my parents' garden. Someday I will draw it.

Old City Tbilisi. Maybe. I would like to think that this sketch was inspired by photo of old Tbilisi. But the truth is I do not remember where I took this photo and whom should I thank for my inspiration and pleasure to draw this beauty.

Once again I received the proof of my thought: the departure to another country on permanent basis or on vacation does not solve any problems of the person, it only distracts for a time.
You change the geography, not the inner state of mind. And any try to run away from yourself this way is useless.
On the other hand if you are calm and optimistic and relaxed inside, you do not need the change of the decoration around you, just looking out of the window makes you happy.

Watercolor Study

Watercolour lesson
After four days of flu, when I did only the things I had to do, the wish to draw returned (which I proved yesterday). And today I post one more sketch, my study from the book "Watercolor Tips and Techniques".
First, I highly recommend painting as the activity which can clean the brain and soul. Because my recovery started in the moment when the alarm clock sketch was ready and completed when I finish this piece.
It turned out too dark, overworked and messy. Mr. Barry Herniman, the author of the lesson in the book would be sorry to see it. And I fell in love with his technique, freedom, color feast and pleasure I received when painting.
His site.
His blog, which looks forgotten and I am sorry about that.
Today's photo are actually three photos. I did them in Georgia, in December 2009. When driving along the small villages on the way to ancient monastery I saw that the fences, gates, benches were coloured same color in each village. So I present here blue village, green village and beige village (at least it is easy for tourists asking for the trip directions):

EDM. Draw what you see first in the morning when you get up.
The focal point of this drawing is my alarm-clock. At least I planned it to be the focal point. Then I decided it was boring to put only one object into the scene. So now you see the phone, the books, lamp and other stuff upon my bed-side table.
For many years this alarm clock was (and is) a dedicated and commanding friend. I have got it as a present from the American company "Westclox" in 1993, almost twenty years ago.
So this is what I see in the morning, the clock dial, hoping it would give me 15 minutes more to sleep.
My today photo is water lilly to-be on the calm waters of Moskva-river in Arkhangelskoe, mansion 10km away from Moscow.

Light and Shadow
24x32 cm (9"x12") Montval paper
My contribution to Dana Marie's "Inspiration All Around Us" challenge.
This time I was painting with W&N masking fluid as I never did before.
These red perfume bottles are born to be painted. I had no plans for making photos in that small perfumery, but red. and reflections. I was hypnotized.
