I see here ALL the beginners' faults I've read about recently at WetCanvas. First one made me laugh, I promised to correct its mistakes in the second one. A-ha!

I know, I know. I will learn greenery painting and then redraw this scene.

Value study

A4
The value study is very difficult for me. Will keep training. The idea photo was taken from Wet Canvas huge study rooms.

Watercolor pencils

A5
It was yesterday's my plein air attempt in the park. First time I tried watercolor pencils. Not my media for permanent work ( I like wider strokes and I am not strong in drawing of the scrupulous paintings), but very interesting as new experience and seems helpful in combination with watercolour.

Small piece of paper, A6(?)
Next morning I draw same tree trunk from memory while waiting in line. I like it. And one more positive prove for drawing of several sketches. Do not be lazy!

To the country!

Next week I will stay at my parents country house. A lot of plein airs are planned and I hope the weather will be good as last Saturday, when I did this photo.

I started drawing/painting 1 year ago

Yesterday, while copying Lowrey's watercolor, I realised that I had progress. This year's work turned a success. The comments of my dearest friends and blog visitors inspired me. Almost every day experience made my hand stronger, braver and confident. The main interest and pleasure lay inside the process of drawing/painting. The result is always lovely (as painting is a part of me, and who can say that he does not love his parts :-))? ) That is great!

Now I am planning to make my palette color charts (though there are a lot of questions here - the work is boring and the color variations are so wide) and to start sketching before painting (though I am afraid to lose the impulse painting and swap it by analysing before painting - my least wanted). And of course I will go on with internet-books-plein airs-still lifes experience.

Also I see that I am hooked by blogging. First it was the need to showcase my works to anybody. The knowing that sometime somebody can see my paintings completely fulfilled the wish to be famous :-)). Now I more interested in reading and watching other blogs. And I am happy to see so many talanted artists and interesting persons.

P.S. Film "Revolutionary Road" by Sam Mendes. I watched it today at last. One of the best films I saw.

WELL, TOO MANY LETTERS ON BLACK BACKGROUND. BLACK IS GOOD FOR PAINTINGS, NOT FOR WORDS:-))).

Winter Scene as a Refreshment

A3, Lesson from A.Lowrey's "Starting to Paint"
I am not a big fan of the winter. But while doing the last in the book of A.Lowrey winter lesson, I realised I liked the subject a lot. Why? It is +32 in Moscow and hard night rains make my dedication to the summer much weaker:).

На даче

A5
Nice scene I caught at my parents country house. Everything arount was so beautiful, clean and in order that I did not know what to draw. The decision came with neighbour's wet towels:-).

Dear Jury! :-))) Before you give me your judgement, please take into consideration: this is the first drawing of the cat in my whole life; the watercolor is the most difficult medium. I love this cat so much, but even love couldn't save the painting from failure :-) Besides, I promised myself to post in my blog everything I create, so this is it!

Birds

A4
Good that I am not serious about my paintings. It is always like a game. Turned out nice - OK, failed - we have a subject to laugh at. And practice, it's always practice.

Drawings

A5
This one was done in Kiev airport, while I was waiting for transit to Tbilisi. I made a lot of small drawings of passengers in transit area (had to kill 4 hours between flights by duty free shops exploring, music listening and drawing people around). Decided to publish this guy just for a change.

One of my collegues presented this 40cm sculpture of a clown with sad eyes on my birthday. Kept it in the office (heavy toy!). Looking for a drawing model I realised it was the best I could find. I think the result turned up OK, considering. No sad eyes, but proportions and clothes look OK to me.

Lesson from A.Lowrey's book "Watercolour for Beginners"

I hope that after at least 15 years of watercolour practice I will get Mr.Lowrey's feel for color mixing :-). His paintings sing.

In the Park

A4
I was in the park today. Great. It is summer and I am free. So I decided to feel each sunny or just warm day of short Moscow summer. It was again a plein air experience which turned nice, considering. Only at the end of the session I realised I painted in sun glasses with brown lenses :-)). It took about two hours, I was tired by the end and fell asleep. Next time I will paint on A5 size paper..

I have already enough experience to compare "Student grade Cotman watercolors" which I used today to White Nights-Yarka St-Petersberg watercolors, which I use in almost all my works. Russian set is much better. Cotman's is good only because it is in small and not heavy box:-)).
