Pigeons

Last 10 days were dedicated to pigeons. Well, sounds lofty...

A friend of mine is in love with pigeons. He has dovecote and enjoys every birds' activity so much. So when he asked me to draw the pigeons for him, I was very interested and googled pictures of the birds to start with and to do my best.

I found great blog of Ariel Freeman (looks like she does not post anymore, but, still, here is the link, enjoy).  And just copied her birds, painting turned artificial and heavy:

Then there were more birds, total of five attempts and the one he liked most is placed in the beginning of this post. Soon it will be framed and hanged on the wall!

  7. Hi Irina these are all fabulous. You have caught the sharp and form beautifully with wonderful colours. Funny I only this week photographed a lot of pigeons to paint too. One day I will get round to it. By the way thanks for the link. I like how Ariel painted hers too. Both yours and hers are good learning tools for me. Take care. Laura x

  9. They all turned out very beautiful, Irina! The first one is denitely the winner, but I like very much the colors in the second and the nice contrasts in the other three.

  15. Irina: Amazing. I LOVE this series. It really touched me because while you were painting pigeons, we were having a pigeon adventure. Read here:

  16. You will have to cut and paste the above link. It doesn't appear to be hyperlinked. But, it will be worth it to read about our adventure.

  17. I'm planning on painting a pigeon as I'm doing a series of garden bird paintings at the moment - well the ones that visit my garden anyway - and there always seems to be a pigeon about! My favourite of yours is the one that your friend chose as well, but they're all great as is the link, new to your blog and following!
